Client Profile
  • Industry: State and Local Government / Education
  • Size: Large K-12 School District with over 350,000 students, 600 schools, and 40,000 employees
  • Location: Chicago
Challenge: Outdated Financial Management Systems

CPS needed to modernize its financial management system, which was reliant on outdated legacy systems. Implementing a district-wide ERP system presented significant challenges, particularly in establishing standard business processes. The objectives were to streamline financial processes, improve budget formulation, and reduce administrative tasks for instructional staff by implementing and upgrading Oracle’s e-Business Suite Financials and iProcurement.

How DTI Helped: Comprehensive ERP Modernization

To address CPS’s needs, DTI teamed with Oracle Consulting Services to migrate from legacy systems to Oracle’s e-Business Suite Financials. They partnered with Accenture and Solbourne (acquired by Deloitte) for upgrades and iProcurement implementation. The project involved extensive analysis, design, development, testing, documentation, data conversion, interfaces, training, and support. DTI collaborated closely with CPS management and technical staff to customize new processes for accounting, grants, procurement, inventory management, and budgeting, while also enhancing iProcurement.

Results and Outcomes

The implementation of Oracle E-Business Suite significantly improved CPS’s financial processes, streamlining various operations and enhancing overall efficiency. Automation of administrative tasks allowed instructional staff to focus more on teaching, reducing their workload. The upgraded system improved budget formulation processes, making them more efficient and accurate. Additionally, the enhanced iProcurement system provided cost savings and reduced processing time, further boosting operational efficiency.

DTI’s comprehensive involvement and the successful execution of the project earned CPS’s trust, highlighting the effective collaboration with CPS management and technical staff. The new ERP system not only supported CPS’s mission but also improved operational efficiency across the board. Comprehensive training ensured a smooth transition and effective use of the new system. Ultimately, the project saw the successful implementation and upgrade of Oracle E-Business Suite Financials across over 600 schools and the installation or upgrading of network infrastructure at approximately 40 schools.
